About the Centre

A place where vulnerable children grow up safe, cared for, and full of possibility

Gift of Love Centre was created in response to the harsh reality faced by many children in Northern Uganda. For children affected by poverty, family loss, displacement, and HIV, stable care can mean the difference between surviving and truly living.

A response to long-term need

The centre was founded in a region marked by the long-term effects of poverty and HIV, shaped in part by the aftermath of armed conflicts in the 1980s. For many families, access to healthcare, stable income, and educational opportunity remains limited. Children who lose parental care or grow up in highly vulnerable conditions face the greatest risks.

That is why Gift of Love exists: to provide vulnerable children with continuity, protection, treatment, and the opportunity to build a different future — one grounded in care, learning, and stability.

Daily life at the centre

More than a place of shelter

Gift of Love is more than a place of shelter. It is a living, caring community where children can experience safety, routine, encouragement, and belonging. During the school year, children stay at the centre, while during holidays they return home and are visited by relatives on designated days.

Built over time, with love

Construction of the centre began in 2011, the first girls were welcomed in 2012, and boys’ accommodation was added in 2015. Over the years, the centre has grown to include accommodation, a common room, a chapel, volunteer housing, a library, a kitchen, workshops, and a kindergarten.

Today, the centre is run by the local nonprofit organization Gift of Love. Children are supported by local caregivers, alongside long-term volunteers who help make daily life richer and more joyful.
